Hey guys,

Just joined up am looking for a little advice and steer.

I'm having a problem with several large Muscovy ducks in my garden, our rear one thousand backs on to a lake and we have a puddle.... The ducks swim on and poop in the pool and poop all around the puddle area.... These are pretty big ducks and leave pretty big evidence of their comings and goings....

I got myself a high powered water pistol to squirt them and try to become them to understand that they are non welcome around the pool area, nonetheless it doesn't seem to work... Possibly they are a little too stupid to sympathise, or possibly it'due south not plenty of a deterrent.

So taking to a neighbor they offered the use of their air rile to scare them away... I declined, withal its at present got to the point that information technology is time to endeavor something new...

What would y'all guys recommend ?

I don't desire to hurt or injure the ducks or to penetrate them with a pellet, just give them a big surprise that they will retrieve the side by side fourth dimension they think virtually coming to visit and using the facilities and having their puddle parties while we are out....

I've been looking at a beretta px4 storm air pistol maybe with high speed pellets... that I can sit on my deck and scare them off.... a rifle is great, however would this exist every bit easy to use given its size when compared to a pistol? I'm looking for something easy to use, that I can fire several shots within a few seconds and something small and easy to handle...

Any advice would exist very much appreciated !!

Cheers,

qt

Arbico-Organics has natural animal control products. They might have something to deter these birds.

You could e'er purchase an airsoft AEG and Bioval bbs.

If you're not after a kill you don't desire a pellet gun of whatever sort.  Fifty-fifty a not lethal striking will possibly exit a pellet embedded along with a real danger of infection.

That said, I call back airsoft is designed not to penetrate the skin of a homo.  I'thousand pretty sure information technology won't penetrate duck feathers either.  Ducks are sometimes hard to take with a regular shotgun.

You could likewise explore the idea of shooting them with paintballs.  That style you could easily place your "regulars".

Muscovy ducks are  domestic, are they not?  Perhaps a conversation with the owner is in order.

Cheers guys,

Nosotros've tried a few things to deter withal cipher has worked, nosotros likewise have many other birds on the lake which are well behaved and don't want to deter the adept ones....

We have the false owls by the pool and the Muscovy's don't even care....

We get all kinds of Herons, Cormorants, several other duck varieties, raptors etc.... these are well behaved and therefore welcome....

The Muscovy's are domestic, nonetheless these are wild... and at that place are lots of them !!

;D

My get-go call would be to the local DNR role to see what they recommend.  We have issues with Canadian Geese here and the Wild fauna Resources Officers have specific means they desire them to be dealt with.  I would want to make sure every response to the pests was within the police force so in that location were no long term costs in legality.

While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the brawl and others of that nature, are too vehement for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your abiding companion of your walks."  Thomas Jefferson

Nosotros have the fake owls past the puddle and the Muscovy's don't even care....

I'm sure somewhere in the world there has been a pest/bird etc that has been scared past an owl or hawk decoy but not around our area.

I kinda like the idea of a paintball program because you lot could really spot the rascals if they return.

Try the 1000&Yard CM M4 with the Bioval bulletin board system. These bbs are 100% biodegradable and so yous don't take to pick them upward.

I had a similar problem.  So I got a Tippmann TiPX paintball pistol.  The .68 cal balls can be filled with paint, which makes a splat about the size of an orange, or solid but soft reusable, or even pepper spray stuff.  Google the gun, specs and reviews.
